- Ascend Ecom: This e-commerce company allegedly defrauded consumers of at least $25 million by promising substantial passive income through AI-powered online virtual stores. A federal court has temporarily halted its operations.
- Ecommerce Empire Builders: Similar to Ascend Ecom, this firm is accused of charging consumers up to $35,000 for AI-powered e-commerce businesses that yielded little to no income.
- Rytr: An AI writing tool company settled with the FTC over allegations it provided a feature for generating fake product reviews. The settlement bars Rytr from offering services to create consumer reviews or testimonials.
- FBA Machine: Another e-commerce scheme promising guaranteed income through AI-enabled online virtual stores. The FTC claims it defrauded customers of around $16 million.

FTC Chair Lina M. Khan stressed that using AI tools to trick, mislead, or defraud people is illegal. She stated,
